INTERPLAST NURSE EDUCATION VISIT TO THE SOLOMON ISLANDS

An Interplast Australia & New Zealand (Interplast) nurse education team is currently visiting the Solomon Islands from 29 September to 3 October 2014.

The team are working at the National Referral Hospital (NRH) in Honiara to provide two concurrent training programs, one for local nursing staff and one focused on the diabetic foot clinic. The team is led by Sr Jan Rice and includes two nurse educators and one podiatrist. This visit is a follow up to a nurse education visit conducted by the same team in March 2014.

Interplast medical teams, funded by the Australian Aid program and Rotary Clubs in Australia and New Zealand have been visiting the Solomon Islands since 1984 to provide free surgical intervention programs to relieve people of disability. To date 1710 consultations and 1092 life-changing procedures have been conducted in the Solomon Islands, and several nurse education programs have taken place.

This Honiara program will be the 36th Interplast visit to the Solomon Islands. It has been generously funded by the Rotary clubs in Australia.
