 Media Release

The Smith Family are deeply sad to announce the passing of Ed Smith on Saturday 9 August.

Ed was loved as a husband, father, son, and brother. Ed’s family – Kate, Meg, Henry and Abi – were the centre of his life. Ed was also a friend and colleague to many in Solomon Islands, Australia and around the world. Ed’s commitment to development and to helping people shone through in all he did. His work here will have a lasting legacy for young Solomon Islanders seeking skills and education for a better life. Ed was a valued member of the Australian High Commission family.

To commemorate Ed’s life, the Smith Family welcome all to a memorial service at Mbonegi 2 Beach at 5:30am on Thursday 14 August. The service will include a wreath laying ceremony and final swim in honour of Ed’s love of the water. Those who’d like to participate are invited to bring swimwear and surfboards. Guests are asked to wear bright colours and to leave their shoes at home.

For those who require transport to the memorial, Kings Cabs will provide a fixed price service for a return trip to the venue. Please call 27888 or 27900.

To help his children remember the man we all knew and loved, everyone whose life was touched by Ed is invited to share their stories and photos. There will be a box available at the memorial service or contributions can be sent to [email protected] for collation into a printed memory book for the family. A condolence book will also be available at the Australian High Commission from 9am-1pm every day this week.
