OPENING OF THE “LET’S MAKE OUR FAMILIES SAFE PROGRAM” COMPETITIVE GRANT

OPENING OF THE “LET’S MAKE OUR FAMILIES SAFE PROGRAM” COMPETITIVE GRANT

Working to create safe family environments and preventing violence against women and girls is a central priority for both the Australian and Solomon Islands governments. Acknowledging that nearly 2 out of 3 women who have ever been in a relationship in Solomon Islands have experienced physical or sexual violence (or both) from an intimate partner, government, NGOs, communities, churches and donors are working to change attitudes and behaviours so that the violence will end.

Australia’s aid program in Solomon Islands has worked with partners to develop the Let’s Make our Families Safe Program (the Safe Families Program). The Program consists of three components:
1. Support to existing and new community activities to prevent family violence;
2. Facilitation of coalition activity at the provincial level; and
3. Rigorous monitoring and evaluation.

This competitive grant will select a partner to implement component 1. Under this component, an implementing partner will be engaged to provide direct financial and other support to communities in 2 provinces to conduct activities to prevent family violence.

Australian Accredited NGOs are eligible to submit a proposal and are also encouraged to consider working with Solomon Islands or regional partners in a consortium.

If your organisation is interested in being part of the Safe Families program, you are encouraged to view the design documents and grant guidelines at http://aid.dfat.gov.au/countries/pacific/solomon-islands/Pages/collaboration-opps.aspx and to register your interest in this grant by emailing [email protected]  so that your organisation can be kept informed about the process and respond to questions.

The closing date for proposals is Wednesday 2 July 2014.
