OPERATION RENDER SAFE AND CCC ATTRACT INTERNATIONAL ATTENTION

An Australian national television crew here in the Solomon Islands this week to cover the work of Operation Render Safe has come away equally impressed with the work of Sister Doreen and all the volunteers at the Christian Care Centre.

The crew from the national Channel 10 breakfast television show “Wake Up” filmed members of the Australian led military task force around Honiara and in the Russell Islands removing dangerous explosive items left over from the second World War.

The film crew also visited the Christian Care Centre to see the work that members of Operation Render Safe had been doing in repainting the centre and installing new water tanks and pumping equipment.

“It is fair to say that the film crew were surprised b y the amount of explosive remnants of World War II that were present in the islands and impressed by the work of the Australian, New Zealand, American and Canadian teams in removing these dangerous items,” said the commander of Operation Render Safe Commander Doug Griffiths.

“It is also true that they came away very impressed with the work of Sister Doreen and all the volunteers at the Christian Care Centre in helping victims of domestic violence.”

“People across Australia will be hearing about the good work of the Christian Care Centre and Operation Render Safe in the next week and I think they will be equally inspired by both,” concluded Commander Griffiths.

Operation Render is a RAN led, multinational Task Force of more than 150 members tasked with removing unexploded Word War II munitions from local communities in the Solomon Islands.

Operation RENDER SAFE 2013 is running from 29 October 2013 to 7 December 2013.
