APTC HANDS OVER RESOURCES TO SINU TOURISM SCHOOL

The Solomon Islands National University is now better equipped to train the next generation of Solomon Islands’ hospitality workers, with the handover of more than 400 Hospitality Learning Resources from the Australian Government funded Australia-Pacific Technical College (APTC).

The resources, including books and CDs, were donated by the Australian hospitality training group Futura and are part of a regional distribution of 6000 resources to APTC hospitality partners in the Pacific.

Speaking at the handover, APTC CEO Denise O’Brien said the distribution of resources to the Solomon Islands National University strengthens APTC’s partnership with the University and improves their capacity to deliver technical and vocational education in Solomon Islands.

Receiving the resources, Vice Chancellor Dr Glyn Galo said the handover of the resources were timely with the university preparing to open the doors of its tourism school.

The A$150 million APTC is Australia’s flagship program for delivering internationally recognised Australian qualifications across the Pacific.  The APTC enrols students from 14 Pacific Island countries into campuses in Fiji, PNG, Samoa, Vanuatu and now in the Solomon Islands at the Don Bosco Technical Institute. More than 600 Solomon Islanders have graduated from APTC courses since 2007.
